Test it with a real scan
A contrast check catches the most common failure, but it's not a substitute for scanning the actual code with a phone camera before you commit to a print run — especially with a logo in the center.
Size it for the distance
A code smaller than roughly 2×2cm (0.8in) gets unreliable fast. Scale up for posters, packaging, or anything scanned from a few feet away rather than up close.
Dark on light is the safest bet
Modul won't stop you from doing it the other way around, but dark modules on a light background remain the most broadly compatible choice across older or cheaper scanners.
Don't crop the margin
That blank border around the code is doing real work — cropping it, or laying it over a busy background, is one of the most common reasons an otherwise-fine code stops scanning.

- Why does Modul warn me about color contrast?
- Low contrast between the foreground and background is the single most common reason a QR code fails to scan. Modul checks the contrast ratio between your two colors live, as you pick them, and flags it before you export — not after you've already printed a batch.
- PNG or SVG — which should I export?
- SVG is vector, so it stays sharp at any size — best for print, posters, packaging, or anything that might get resized later. PNG is simpler for quick digital use, like a slide, PDF, or social post.
- Does adding a logo make my QR code harder to scan?
- Modul automatically raises the error-correction level when a logo is added, which builds in enough redundancy for the code to still read correctly with the center partially covered. It's still worth doing a real scan test before printing at any scale.
- How much margin does my QR code need?
- That empty border — the quiet zone — helps a scanner find the edges of the code. Modul keeps it between 16–64px for that reason; shrinking it too far can make a code unreliable, especially printed small.
